Are you looking for a special program to help your child discover the wonders of ballet in Colorado Springs? Look no further! The Children's Division classes at the Colorado Springs Ballet provide a wide selection of classes for children aged 1 ½ to 7 and older. From classical ballet to Broadway ballet, tap dancing, jazz, hip-hop, characters, cult and more, there is something for every level of dancer. The classes are designed to help children develop their ballet technique, teamwork skills, strength and endurance in a positive and motivating atmosphere. To begin level 1, the basics of classical ballet, classroom etiquette and self-discipline are introduced.
Supplementary training classes on a Pilates mat, progressive ballet technique and weight training are available for men. The age range from Ballet 1X to Ballet 4 is approximate, as students progress at their own pace. Young aspiring dancers continue to increase their understanding of ballet concepts, their coordination, their musicality and their artistic creativity in an encouraging environment. Martina Phelan, a 17-year-old girl and one of the co-founders of the class, spent a weekend last summer at the Boston Ballet to obtain the title of certified adaptive ballet instructor.
She learned techniques for teaching dance and movement to people with disabilities and strategies for modifying dance teaching to meet the needs of diverse students. The MCB School Ensemble performs in the MCB's exclusive educational and outreach program, Ballet for Young People, as well as other special events and public performances at some of the major performing arts centers in South Florida.
